Since 1971, the scientists at Arnco have been developing a line of technologically advanced polyurethane products and in 1977 developed a high performance flexible polyurethane formulation. Carefree Tires innovative process of manufacturing is specifically designed to create a tire that has a durable non-porous outer elastomeric skin with a high-density cellular core consisting of trillions of trapped air cells. The tough-yet-flexible outer skin allows for a firm tread area that provides excellent resistance to abrasion, cutting, punctures, and chemical attack, while the dense micro-cellular core reduces rolling resistance, and allows for greater shock absorption. As a result, not only will a Carefree Tire last four to ten times longer than a similar pneumatic tire, it requires much less effort to roll.

Dynamic Load Test
The purpose of the Dynamic Load Test is to simulate the working environment that the tire may be subjected to and to evaluate the tires durability and performance.

Test:Complete tire and rim assembly is mounted into a drum test fixture. Each tire will travel at a rotational velocity of 100 PRMs for a total of 24,000 revolutions under weight loads of 150 lbs and 300 lbs.

Results: Due to the high-density cellular core of the Carefree Tires unique design, they prove much better in maintaining original characteristics after flexing under load and have shown less sidewall stress after thousands of flex cycles than the leading competitors Flat Free tire.
The primary cause of rolling resistance is hysteresis:
A characteristic of a deformable material such that the energy of deformation is greater than the energy of recovery. The rubber compound in a tire exhibits hysteresis. As the tire rotates under the weight of the vehicle, it experiences repeated cycles of deformation and recovery, and it dissipates the hysteresis energy loss as heat. Hysteresis is the main cause of energy loss associated with rolling resistance and is attributed to the viscoelastic characteristics of the rubber.

Thus materials that flex more and bounce back slowly, such as rubber, exhibit more rolling resistance.
With continuous cycling of the rubber pneumatic tire under load. The tire looses air pressure. Lower pressure results in even more flexing of sidewalls. This energy conversion in the sidewalls increases rolling resistance and can also lead to tire failure.

The Environmental Impact
Rubber tires are among the largest and most problematic sources of waste.
Approximately one rubber tire is discarded per person per year.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reported 290 million scrap rubber tires were generated in 2003. Pneumatic, or air filled, tires that are no longer suitable for use due to wear or irreparable damage (such as punctures) are among the largest and most problematic sources of waste generated today.
In use, and when discarded, rubber-based tires break down through exposure to ozone, abrasion, heat, humidity and other factors. Studies show that zinc, heavy metals, a host of vulcanization and rubber chemicals leach into water from tires. Many organisms are sensitive, and without dilution, contaminated tire water has been shown to kill some organisms.

The Environmental Advantages of a Carefree Tire
